Free Brakes for Food Drive in Saint Paul and West St. Paul
In an effort to give back to our community, Signal Garage of West St. Paul started a program six years ago; we call our program ”Free Brakes for Food”.
Every summer we collect food and school supplies for two local agencies: “Neighbors” in South St. Paul and “Neighborhood House” in Saint Paul.
Our customers bring in a full bag of non-perishable food to donate and Signal Garage replaces their brake pads or shoes for free. Really!
It took a few years to build up the momentum, but by 2008, we were able to give away over $3000 in parts and labor to our clients, and in return we collected over one ton of food.
In 2009 things got very exciting; our goal was to collect 1.5 tons of food and thanks to our community, we collected over 3.5 tons (7000 pounds) of food and hundreds of dollars worth of school supplies. In return, we gave away over $24,000 in parts and labor to our generous clients! In order to achieve all of this and because the demand was so high we extended our food drive untill the end of September.
In 2010 things were just as exciting; Our goal was 10,000 ponds and even though we did not make our goal, it was our privilage to collect 8253 pounds of food, and $1486 in school supplies. Once again we extended our food drive thru the end of September.
In 2010 We performed 308 brake inspections, We installed 188 free brake pads or shoes, And The total cash discounts came to $28,316.52.
